On September 14, 2026, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled against a U.S. Postal Service plan that would have imposed new requirements for mail-in ballots before the November 3, 2026 election. The plan was developed based on an executive order issued by President Trump.
Hansi Lo Wang of NPR reported that the high court’s ruling “means the U.S. Postal Service is expected to continue delivering ballots as usual.”
Wang’s article also includes this statement from New York State Attorney General Letitia James: “Voters should never have to wonder whether a ballot they legally cast will be counted because the federal government suddenly changed the rules.”
