When is the next statewide election? What’s on my ballot?
The next statewide election is April 21, 2026. It is a special election to vote “yes” or “no” on a proposed amendment to the Constitution of Virginia.
Early voting starts on March 6. The last day to request an absentee ballot is April 10. Find other important dates and deadlines for this special election below.
Your ballot will include one question: “Should the Constitution of Virginia be amended to allow the General Assembly to temporarily adopt new congressional districts to restore fairness in the upcoming elections, while ensuring Virginia’s standard redistricting process resumes for all future redistricting after the 2030 census?”
- A “yes” vote means that you support amending the Constitution to allow the temporary adoption of new congressional districts.
- A “no” vote means that you do not support amending the Constitution to allow the temporary adoption of new congressional districts.

Important Dates and Deadlines – 2026 Statewide Special Election
From the Virginia Department of Elections
March 6 – First day of early, in-person voting
April 14 – Last day to register to vote or update an existing registration (voters can register after this date and vote in person using a provisional ballot through the Special Election Day)
April 10 at 5:00 pm – Deadline to apply for a ballot to be mailed to you
April 11 – Early, in-person voting locations open on a Saturday
April 18 through 5:00 pm – Last day of early, in-person voting
April 21 – Election Day, polls open 6:00 am to 7:00 pm (absentee ballots: this is the last day to postmark or return to local election office by 7:00 pm)
Absentee Ballot Voters – Sooner is better! If you plan to mail in your absentee ballot, send it as soon as possible. The delivery of regular mail is routinely delayed.

Call or text a nonpartisan hotline!If you are having trouble voting, or just have questions, you can call or text a hotline to call a trained Election Protection volunteer. You can also use WhatsApp, Facebook, and email to send a message. If you use ASL, the National Association of the Deaf operates an ASL Voter Assistance Hotline.
- Three proposed Constitutional amendments are on the ballot in Virginia this November 3 ElectionThe proposed amendments to the Virginia Constitution deal with reproductive freedom, marriage equality, and restoring voting rights. They will appear on your ballot as Question 1, Question 2, and Question 3.
- Join us for a statewide Candidate Forum on issues that matter to the disability communityHear directly from candidates for U.S. Senate running in the upcoming general election. This virtual event will be held on October 7, 2026 from 6:00 to 7:30 PM. ASL interpretation will be provided.
