Ballot Questions
Proposed Constitutional Amendments
Your ballot will contain three proposed amendments to the Virginia Constitution, asking voters to vote “yes” or “no” on three questions:
- Question 1 – Reproductive Freedom
- Question 2 – Marriage Equality
- Question 3 – Restoring Voting Rights

Local Ballot Questions
Your ballot may also contain one or more questions for your county, town, or city. A local ballot question, also known as a referendum, asks about topics such as as education, roads, sales taxes, and parks. Here’s an example: “Shall the method of selecting the school board be changed from direct election by the voters to appointment by the board of supervisors?” In this example,
- A “yes” vote means that you support the appointment of school board members by the board of supervisors.
- A “no” vote means that you support the direct election of school board members by the voters.
You can find a complete list of statewide and local questions that will appear on the November 2026 ballot here. You can also contact your local office of elections to find out if a referendum will be included on your ballot. Information on ballot referendums may also be available through online sample ballot lookup tools provided by Ballotpedia and the League of Women Voters Education Fund.
